Day 1: Modules 1 – 9
Module #3 – Setting Up Your Document
  • Contact Page on MemoirHelper.com
  • OpenOffice Writer
  • LibreOffice Writer
  • Microsoft Word as a part of Office 365 subscription
  • Microsoft Word Letter Size Template Single-Sided Printing – Use this version if you will be printing only on the front side of the paper for a 3-ring binder, coil-binding or if you will be creating an e-book. This document is 8½” x 11. If you are using Microsoft Word and are unsure of which version to choose, use this one.
  • Microsoft Word Letter Size Template for Two-Sided Printing or Self-Publishing – Use this version if you will be doing two-sided printing on heavy paper. This would be for putting your document into a 3-ring binder, having it bound by a print shop, or for having your document made into a printed book through a self-publishing company. Self-publishing allows you to have your project professionally printed in small quantities at prices similar to buying off the bookstore shelf. This document is 8½” x 11” inches. The margins on this document are different for even pages and odd pages so as to accommodate the binding in the center of the book.
  • Microsoft Word Trade Size Template for Self-Publishing – Use this version if you would like to have your document made into a trade-sized printed book. Self-publishing allows you to have your project professionally printed in small quantities at prices similar to buying off the bookstore shelf. This document is 6” x 9”. It is not quite as convenient for printing drafts on a standard printer but may fit better on your bookshelf. The margins on this document are different for even pages and odd pages so as to accommodate the binding in the center of the book.

Self-publishing allows you to have your project professionally printed in small quantities at prices similar to buying off the bookstore shelf. This document is 8½” x 11” inches which makes it nice for printing drafts on a standard printer. You may prefer the Trade size for your bookshelf, however, if you want larger photos, this is the way to go. The margins on this document are different for even pages and odd pages so as to accommodate the binding in the center of the book.
