Encourage Seniors to Preserve Their Stories While They Are Stuck at Home

Do you know any senior citizens who are getting a little bored or depressed by staying at home these past few months?

It’s wonderful to check-in with them regularly, but if they are anything like my parents, they have finished all the seasons of their favorite TV Shows and are starting to go a little stir crazy.

It may just be the perfect time to encourage the elders in your life to preserve their life stories.

Some people will only need a little nudge and others may need a little more help. You might try coming up with a few questions each week. The questions could be answered in a way that best fits the situation. Here are a few options:

  • You could host a Zoom call and record it.
  • He or she could simply write or type the answers.
  • It could be a telephone conversation and you can take notes.
  • A voice recorder could be used.
  • The answers could be dictated into a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Google Docs works great for this.

If you aren’t sure what to ask, you can always use prompts from the Get it Done! Memoir Workbook or just send them the print version of the workbook and have them answer whatever questions they want.

If your senior knows how to type or is comfortable using speech to text features on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, a gift certificate to MemoirWorkbook.com might be the way to go.

If not now, WHEN?
